The OPS collections area will be a much slower area of growth.  Through partnership with PERFORATIONS, some personal collections that are offered for consignment will be documented, completely scanned, are represented here in pdf format for viewing online or for download.  This is made possible by careful planning and financial investment.

It should be noted here, that no collection will be posted without the agreement of the previous owner and unless specifically noted, the previous owner will remain anonymous.  Any written notes that have added increased meaning to the collection will also be preserved through this format.  An example will be posted shortly.

A CHRISTMAS ISLAND EXAMPLE......

Click the blue "download" link to view.  A table will appear offering options to "OPEN or "SAVE".  By clicking "OPEN" (recommended) the file will open onto this site for full viewing.  This conversion will typically take 10-30 seconds depending on the size of the file being offered.  Navigation instructions will be found on the page itself.  By clicking "SAVE" the file will be downloaded onto your computer for viewing later.  These files will change frequently as information updates and improved images become available and it is suggested, for practical reasons, that files be viewed here from this website.  There is a section for "notes" should viewers wish to e-mail us with comments on specific items within the file.  These "notes" may then be added to the respective reference items.

The RUSSIAN EXAMPLE

TURNING the PAGE at the OPS LIBRARY........

Sunday, May 8, 2011

Recently, our technical server "Jimdo" introduced a new online partner that offers a couple of very useful tools. Welcome calaméo. Basically, amongst several of the services provided, is an e-book generator.

Provided below is an example (made available by them) of a Russian collection of postage stamps of the early Soviet era. The format is easy to use, fully expandable to view at higher magnification and uses very little "memory space". This example is copyright free and abides by the usage guidelines of both this website and calaméo.

Feel free to browse through the collection, made available below, and determine how this might be useful to us at the OPS in the future. I hope to work very closely with the Library volunteers to also explore how we might use such tools in generating components of a "virtual library".

The icons along the top panel are basic enough to understand by most, however, please contact the webmaster if you have any difficulties.
