BOOKMARK THIS PAGE........

Provided is a complete, updated list of the holdings of the Ottawa Philatelic Societies Litetature Collection referred to hereafter as "The Library".  Developed over a long time, the OPS library is sizeable and ever expanding.  Great efforts have been made recently to provide an electronic database of the holdings.  Those efforts have produced very fruitful results.

Following is a downloadable file, in excel format, that has listings for the library holdings by:

  • Reference Number (in order of attainment)
  • Title (many foreign items and periodicals are included)
  • Author (cross referenced when numerous authors noted of a single title.

The Society is extermely fortunate to have attained the committed service of volunteers who conduct the necessary filing and manage the library so that members have ready access to the materials.  Also included within the holdings are numerous documents pertaining the "events" of the OPS over the past century, including minutes, financial logs, newspaper clippings, photographs, etc.

E-BOOKMARK THIS PAGE TOO......

While this spreadsheet format is the first electronic leap, it is hoped that progressively, the library holdings will be reformatted to also produce an interactive, visual companion for this website.

It may soon be possible to make certain books available for download and/or posted for online viewing to OPS members.  The technical steps that might be required  are currently being explored.  Of course, none of this would have been possible without the tremendous support of our wonderful library team - Dave, Michel and Henri - and their numerous predecessors.

CONTACTING the LIBRARIANS.......

The VIRTUAL AGE TURNS a PAGE

Sunday, May 8, 2011

Recently, our technical server "Jimdo" introduced a new online partner that offers a couple of very useful tools. Welcome calaméo. Basically, amongst several of the services provided, is an e-book generator.

Provided below is an example (made available by them) of Starting an Online Business for Dummies. The format is easy to use, fully expandable to view at higher magnification and uses very little "memory space". This example is copyright free and abides by the usage guidelines of both this website and calaméo.

Feel free to browse through the book, made available below, and determine how this might be useful to us at the OPS in the future. I hope to work very closely with the Library volunteers to continue to explore how we might use such tools in generating components of a "virtual library" available to the OPS members.

The icons along the top panel are basic enough to understand by most, however, please contact the webmaster if you have any difficulties.
