History

MINIEX is an annual community event designed to showcase and celebrate the activities and work of the members of the stamp clubs in Ottawa/Gatineau and the surrounding area. It includes exhibits, an auction, and a public program. Visitors are welcome.

MINIEX 2012 will be held at the RA Centre on Thursday, February 9, 2012, from 6 p.m.

The Theme for 2012

The Theme for MINIEX 2012 is The War of 1812.

Exhibits

MINIEX is especially designed to encourage collectors who wish to develop and display exhibits, and members of all clubs in the region are invited to enter their exhibits at MINIEX. Exhibits can be from 1 to 16 pages, and will be accepted in the following categories:

BNA (which includes Canada)

World

Postal History

Topical (any topic, any form of presentation)

The Posted Theme, which this year is: The War of 1812

New Exhibitor (any length of exhibit)

Other (Display, Post Cards, etc.)

Guidelines for exhibitors

For all MINIEX exhibitors the rule is that what is shown must be an exhibit offered for the first time outside the member’s home club. MINIEX especially welcomes first time exhibitors, and also encourages exhibits that consist of philatelic material that is easily affordable by all.

Each exhibit will be assessed by a panel of judges and given a grade: Platinum (95-100 points), Gold (85-94), Silver (70-84), Bronze (1-69). The assessment by the judges will be based on the following guidelines and percentages:

1. Does the Exhibit set a goal and successfully reach it, that is, does it do what it sets out to do - tell a story, explore an argument or thesis, analyze an issue - whatever: 40%.

2. Overall presentation: 30%.

3. Condition and quality of the material (regardless of “value”): 10%.

4. Scope of the material (philatelic elements): 10%.

5. Personal research, philatelic and related knowledge: 10%.

All exhibitors will be given a record of the grades (with relevant points) assigned by the judges. In each category the exhibit earning the highest number of points will be awarded a prize, and, in addition, a Most Popular Exhibit award covering all exhibits in all categories will be determined by an attendee ballot vote.

The MINIEX Auction

The Auction, which is organized by the OPS and run by volunteers from the OPS and the RA Stamp Club, is a popular feature of MINIEX. A member of any club in the region may offer up to fifteen lots in the MINIEX Auction. All sales will be subject to a seller’s 15% fee. Lots must be registered, assigned lot numbers, and be available for display not later than 7 p.m. The MINIEX lot sheet and the regulations covering the Auction are appended.

Organization

MINIEX is organized and administered by a joint committee of the RA Stamp Club and the Ottawa Philatelic Society.  

The MINIEX Auction - Rules and Regulations

- A member of any club in the region may enter lots in the MINIEX Auction.

- Members wishing to enter items in the auction must register, giving their name, phone number, email address, and club, information that is required to ensure that all lots remain connected to their correct owners. Registration of lots will begin at 6.00 p.m. and end at 7:00 p.m.

- All items entered should have a MINIEX Auction lot sheet securely attached to it. The lot sheet is available on-line at www.ottawaphilatelicsociety.org

- A member may enter up to 15 items in the auction.

- Members will be assigned their lot numbers when they register.

- Up to 400 lots may be entered in the auction, and when the registrar has assigned 400 lot numbers no additional lots will be accepted.

- If there are not 400 lots by 7:00 p.m., members who have already entered 15 lots can enter an additional number of lots. Therefore when members register their initial 15 lots, they must inform the registrar if they have additional lots they wish to enter. If there are not 400 lots by 7:00 pm, the registrar will call members with additional lots back to assign additional numbers. This will be done in the order that the initial lots were registered; i.e.: 1st come, 1st served.

- Members filling in the lot sheets should identify the year of the catalogue they used to value their item; for example: Scott 2008.

- Persons wishing to bid must register when they arrive and pick up their bidder’s number.

- Viewing at the auction begins at 7:00 p.m.

- Persons who wish to bid must write their bids in the spaces provided on the lot sheet using the bidding increments at the bottom of the MINIEX lot sheet.

- A lot will be sold to the highest bid on the lot sheet.

- Bidding will close at 8.00 p.m. sharp.

- Successful bidders will be able to pick up and pay for their purchases once the evening’s program is completed. MINIEX Auction will retain 15% of the sale price of each lot sold.

- Sales receipts and unsold lots will be available for pickup after the payments from successful bidders is completed.

- The MINIEX Auction is organized and administered by the Ottawa Philatelic Society and the rulings and decisions of the MINIEX Auction Administrator appointed by the OPS are final.

Le thème de MINIEX 2012 sera la Guerre de 1812.

Exhibits

MINIEX est spécialement conçu pour encourager les collectionneurs qui veulent développer et montrer un exhibit. Les membres de tous les clubs de la région sont invités à participer à cet exhibit. Ils peuvent être entre une et seize pages, et faire partie d’une des catégories suivantes :

            Amérique du Nord Britannique (incluant le Canada)

            Monde entier

            Histoire postale

            Thématique (n’importe quel sujet ou thème)

            Le thème de l’année en cours : la Guerre de 1812

            Nouvel exposant (n’importe quelle classe)

            Autre (cartes postales, présentations)

Guide pour les exposants

L’exhibit soumis ne doit pas avoir été montré ailleurs qu’au club local de l’exposant. MINIEX invite particulièrement les gens qui veulent exposer pour la première fois, et encourage les exhibits contenant un matériel philatélique abordable pour tous.

Chaque exhibit sera jugé par un panel de juges et se fera attribuer un pointage : Platine (95 à 100 points), Or (85 à 94 points), Argent (70 à 84 points) et Bronze (1 à 69 points). La décision des juges sera soumise aux règles suivantes :

            1. L’exhibit a t’il un but, et l’atteint-il? Est-ce que l’exhibit suit une histoire, explore ou                                  analyse t’il un argument ou une thèse? : 40%

            2. Présentation générale : 30%

            3. Condition et qualité des items (peu importe leur valeur monétaire) : 10%

            4. Variété des items choisis (éléments philatéliques) : 10%

            5. Recherche personnelle sur le sujet, connaissances philatéliques : 10%

Tous les exposants se feront remettre une évaluation écrite avec le pointage, préparée par les juges. Dans chaque catégorie, l’exhibit ayant obtenu le plus haut pointage recevra un prix et un gagnant sera aussi choisi par le public pour l’exhibit le plus populaire.

L’encan MINIEX

L’encan, qui est organisé par les volontaires des SPO et Club de timbres RA, est un aspect populaire de MINIEX. Un membre de n’importe quel club local peut offrir en enchère pas plus de 15 lots à cet encan. Les vendeurs devront tous payer un frais de 15% sur les lots vendus. Les lots doivent être enregistrés, numérotés et être disponible pour le début de l’encan pas plus tard que 19:00 le soir même. Le formulaire de lots est en annexe.

Responsables

MINIEX est organisé et administré par un comité conjoint du Club de timbres RA et la Société philatélique d’Ottawa.

L’encan MINIEX – règlements

- Tous les membres des clubs locaux peuvent soumettre des lots à l’encan MINIEX.

- Les membres qui veulent vendre doivent s’enregistrer en donnant leur nom, numéro de téléphone, adresse courriel et nom du club. Ces informations sont nécessaires afin que tous les lots soient attribués aux bons propriétaires. La période d’enregistrement débute à 18:00 et se termine à 19:00.

- Tous les lots à vendre doivent être accompagnés d’un formulaire de lot MINIEX. On peut se procurer ce formulaire à l’adresse www.ottawaphilatelicsociety.org

- Chaque membre est limité à pas plus de 15 items par encan.

- Les vendeurs leurs seront assigné des numéros de lots dès leur enregistrement.

- Nous pouvons accepter un maximum de 400 lots par encan. Lorsque ce maximum est atteint, aucun lot supplémentaire ne peut être accepté.

- Si le maximum de 400 lots n’est pas atteint à 19:00, les membres qui auront atteint leur maximum individuel de 15 lots pourront en ajouter d’autres. Il faut par conséquent que les membres informent le registraire qu’ils en ont plus de 15 au début, afin d’être contacté s’il reste de la place. Les places additionnelles seront assignées au premier arrivé, premier servi l’ors de l’enregistrement initial.

- En remplissant le formulaire de lot, les membres sont priés d’inscrire l’année du catalogue utilisé, p. ex. Scott 2008.

- Les gens qui veulent miser sur des lots doivent s’enregistrer dès leur arrivée, et obtenir un numéro d’enchérisseur.

- Le visionnement des lots et la période d’enchérissage débute à 19:00 et se termine à 20:00.

- Les gens qui veulent miser sur un lot doivent inscrire le montant de leur mise ainsi que leur numéro d’enchérisseur sur le formulaire de lot, et utiliser les incréments inscrits au bas du formulaire.

- Les lots seront vendus au propriétaire du plus haut montant enchéri.

- Les membres qui auront gagné un ou des lots pourront les ramasser à la fin de la soirée. MINIEX gardera 15% des montants obtenus par lot.

- Les vendeurs pourront obtenir des reçus de vente aussitôt la période de paiement terminée.

- L’encan MINIEX est organisé et administré par la Société philatélique d’Ottawa, et les décisions et règlements de l’administrateur de l’encan MINIEX nommé par la SPO, sont finales.
