The OPS held its annual Celebration Night at its last formal meeting of the year on May 24. The evening was enlivened by groaning tables of goodies contributed by Members, the highlights of which it would be ungracious to note. Except to say there were many. The whole of this feast was, as ever, efficiently organized by Nicole Lacourse & Yvon Richard, and their many helpers.  (Images available by clicking photo below)

 

Retiring President David Giles - vigorously backed by the Members present - thanked the Members last year’s Executive - John Noordhof, Wayne Perrin, Robert Benoit and Michel Lavoie (all of whom continue to serve on the new Executive) - for their work in the past year, and paid a special tribute to Tom Toomey, who has moved on to greater things after several terms as an outstanding OPS Treasurer.

 

The Members in turn thanked David for his good year as President by awarding him The Poirier Cup, given each year by a vote of the membership to a person deemed to have made an outstanding contribution to the Society.

 

Incoming Treasurer Wayne Perrin reported on the recent successful auction, where 121 of the 300 lots sold.

 

Our new President, John Noordhof, presided. He urged members who have not yet paid their dues to do so (the discount having been extended to June 2); noted that it was planned to make our new website the main avenue of communication with Members in the future; indicated that there will be a first meeting of the new Executive on June 4 and asked Members with concerns or ideas they wished to see raised to get them to any Member of the Executive as soon as possible; announced that the website will go public soon after the June 4 Executive meeting; and wished everyone a grand summer.

 

Members are reminded that informal open meetings will continue through June.
