NOTES from the PRESIDENT.........
An INVITATION from the PRESIDENT.....
Sunday, September 4, 2011
Welcome back to another year of the OPS. As we resume our weekly gatherings, I would like to highlight a number of items.
First of all, we will be meeting in a new and larger room. Last year, we ended up having to move into different rooms because of construction at the Hintonburg Centre. This year, we should be in the same room each week. It will be a larger room than in the past, with good lighting. This larger room will allow for plenty of space for members, dealers, and study groups. So come out each Thursday night.
Second, the program for the year has been posted elsewhere on the website (see link immediately below), as well as emailed to all members. It is a full program that should have something of interest to every member. But in order for it make it successful, your input and participation is required. Your contributions, by making exhibits or bringing items to a workshop, will add to the depth of the program.
Finally, you will note continuing improvements. The website has had a radical makeover and is now fully operational. Auctions will be expanded to 400 lots and up to 20 lots per member. Other new developments will be announced as the year begins. The Executive hopes these improvements will enhance the solid base that the OPS already enjoys.
See you each Thursday.
Serving the members of the OPS,
John H. Noordhof
President of the OPS

A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT......
Saturday, July 9, 2011
Welcome to the re-launched and completely re-designed website of the Ottawa Philatelic Society. While the heart of our club is our weekly meetings that take place every Thursday night (Sept-June) at the Hintonburg Community Center, this website allows the conversation to continue beyond the confines of a single night. We are Canada’s oldest stamp club and with this website, I think we can claim that we are also one of the more progressive clubs. While some think that stamp collecting is a dying hobby, we are convinced that stamp collecting, in all its various facets, is alive and well.
The website offers a wide range of information, not only about the club, but also about philately in general. It is a work in progress and we hope to add new features in time, so come back often to this website. In addition, we want to invite you to our weekly meetings. We start up again on Thursday, September 8. In August the full year program will be posted. Visitors are welcome. In the meantime, wander through the site to discover what the Ottawa Philatelic Society has to offer.
John H. Noordhof
President of the Ottawa Philatelic Society
